Amelia Mollie (Goerss) Shannon II was born on June 23, 1888 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio United States to Herman Charles Goerrs I and Amelia A Goerss, and had siblings Rose (Goerss) Schmidt, Herman C Goerrs II, Alma (Goerrs) Acker, Lydia (Goerrs) Meissner, and Emma (Goerss) Summerer. She was in a relationship with Herbert Lichtle, and had children Viola E Ondo and Virginia Stuart. Amelia Shannon died at age 74 years old on November 4, 1962.

In 1888, in the year that Mollie (Goerss) Lichtle - Shannon was born, on July 25th, a court stenographer from Salt Lake City - Frank Edward McGurrin - decisively beat the competition in a typing contest in Ohio. He was supposedly the only person who used touch typing and is believed to have invented the method. Touch typing is ubiquitous now - but Frank's win is what convinced everyone that the method was good!

In 1922, Amelia was 34 years old when the Lincoln Memorial was dedicated in Washington, D.C. on May 30th. More than 35,000 people attended the dedication including Lincoln's son, Robert Todd Lincoln, and many Union and Confederate veterans - although the audience was segregated.
