    Mitsuru Haraguchi is the son of Sakuzo Haraguchi (1874-1949) and Yukino Ushirone (1894-1980). He was born on September 5, 1924 in Redondo California and had siblings Yaeyo Massaki "June" (1922-2013), Hiroshi (1926-1989), Takeshi (1929-1929), Billy Noboru "William" (1930-1997), and Shigeru Haraguchi (1933-1933). He also had multiple half siblings. He grew up in Dominguez, Los Angeles, California. He joined the United States military in August of 1944, He married Kazuko Yonahara (1932-2001) on May 30, 1970 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Together they had a son, Bobby Molina Haraguchi (1957-2002).

In 1924, in the year that Mitsuru Haraguchi was born, Macy's department store in New York held its first "Thanksgiving parade" on November 27th at 9a - during church services but leaving plenty of time to attend the big football game between Syracuse and Columbia universities. The parade was held as a way to promote the opening of the “World’s Largest Store” and its 1 million square feet of retail space in Manhattan’s Herald Square. The parade was 6 miles long and included floats, Macy's employees dressed as clowns, cowboys, and sword-wielding knights, and animals from Central Park Zoo. Santa Claus, of course, brought up the rear - opening the Christmas shopping season for Macy's.
