Milton Wright 1828 - 1917

Milton Wright was born on November 17, 1828 in Rushville, Rush County, Indiana United States. He was married to Susan Catherine (Koerner) Wright in 1859, and they were together until Susan's death on July 4, 1889. He had children Reuchlin Wright, Lorin Wright, Wilbur Wright, Ida Wright, Otis Wright, Orville Wright, and Katharine Wright. Milton Wright died at age 88 years old on April 3, 1917 in Oakwood, Montgomery County, OH.

In 1828, in the year that Milton Wright was born, on September 17th, a typhoon - called the Siebold Typhoon because German physician Philipp Franz von Siebold was there and took measurements during the storm - killed over 14,000 people in Kyūshū, Japan. It was the greatest number of deaths in any storm in Japan.

In 1833, at the age of just 5 years old, Milton was alive when on April 18th, over 300 delegates from England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland called on the office of the Prime Minister of Great Britain to demand the immediate abolition of slavery throughout the British Empire. Following this, slavery was abolished by the Slavery Abolition Act 1833 - with exceptions provided for the East India Company, Ceylon, and Saint Helena.
