knew him since I was born

Milan and Elise Stoeger were two of the closest friends of my parents, Sidney and Phyllis Levenstein. I'll never forget his tale of escaping the Holocaust from Yugoslavia under hay in an oxcart. He had polio as a child and remained handicapped. Elise's death from cancer devastated him, I don't think he ever recovered from it. He was a lovely human being and, I think, an excellent lay analyst. I last saw him a few years after I moved to Rome in 1978.
