My uncle mackie and my auent Fern married I have all of this written down somewhere. It was in illnois. They lived in a farm house near what then was called Murpheys crossing . She was a school teacher. I assume he was a farmer. It was Feb. 14 1936 He had been working in town because it was too cold to work on the farm .She wasnt teaching school that day. They had lost a baby a few mo. earlier. It was vallentines day. she got dressed up in a new dress that her parents had bought her for Vallentines day ? They got intheir Buick car . She also had a box of vallentines candy that her parents had bought her. They got in the car . She put the candy on her lap .And up the road they went they made a right turn ibelieve and on the railroad tracks they wete in their Buick car. Oh no came a fast moving ill. Central passenger train. The car got stuck on the track. Engine 202 hit them on auent Ferns side .Throughed both of them out took off patt of the back of aunt Ferns head. Hurt uncle Mackie real bad .I eaven have tha name of the neighbor and friend that csme up on the accident. Also the enhineers and conductors and the firemans name seameslike the train went 26 or 36 light poles before it couldget stopped. The cowhook was eather tore off of it or bent up under it.I think all was left of the Buick was part of the moror. Uncle Mackie was about 36 then Auent Fern was 26.Anyway uncle Mackie went to the service came back and lived at Vergeneese and Murpeysboro. One sat. night or early on sun. Back in une 1967 Some mean pearson murdered him and left him on a gravel road south of murpheysboro.Eaven took his bilfold.I believe that my uncle Mackie loved my auent Fern so much. He was still young when this accident happened .He never married again Hummmm A vallentines love story . WRITTRN BY THEIR NEICE MS. GERYLING DAVIES.
