Maxie has deserted multiple spouses and children and changed his name to avoid presecution
My name is James Lewis Wilkins born 20 May 1943. Maxie deserted my mother and her three kids when I was barely 1 year old.
He changed his name to Maxwell Lewis Wilkes to avoid being held accountable.
I am interested in any information anyone can provide: [contact link]

I have tracked down the following relationships:

1. Joanne Campbell - married 22 OCT 1938 - had three kids in 1939, 1940 and 1943
2. Lena Mae Wilkins of Kinston, NC wrote a letter to my mom January 12, 1948 saying she married Maxie in May 22, 1947 and he left her August 25, 1947.. Maxie took $100.00 that her mother gave her to buy furniture. She didn't hear from him for two months and received a letter from him asking her to go live with him in Charlotte. Of course she wouldn't go considering the way he left. Maxie's brother visited her shortly thereafter asking about him and that how she got my mom's address. Maxie had told her he had three kids with mother and had divorced her.
3. Geraldine Wilkes of Whiteville, NC wrote in February 1954 that was a reply to other exchanges they had by mail. She has a son by Maxie named John Allen Wilkes born around 1952. She too was in frequent contact with Maxie's brother Clay. She had a lot to say about how rotten Maxie was and she and mom were apparently discussing another women he was involved with and one who was considering taken him back. No other details.
4. Roberta Jean Peterson married her in 1959 and had one son named Robert - divorced in 1962
5. Vallie Wilkes - married sometime around 1962 and divorced 1963
6. Bertha L Ledbetter married 03Aug1973 - she died 6 JUL 1986
7. Maxwell Lewis Wilks death noted 6 DEC 1987 Dallas county, TX
