    Max Weg was born on August 20th or 21st, 1898 - reports vary - in Poland to unknown parents. Both of his parents were born in Poland. Max immigrated to the United States and became a naturalized citizen sometime before 1930. Max Weg married Ida Darver on October 1st, 1927 in Brooklyn, New York, and they had a daughter, Sydell Weg. Both Max and Ida had said at one point that they were born in Austria. Their daughter was born in the state of New York. Max died at the age of 90 on May 2nd, 1989, in New York state. He is buried in Beth Moses Cemetery in West Babylon, Suffolk County, New York.

    Max's 1942 World War II draft card described him as being 44 years old, 5 feet 6 inches tall and as weighing 155 pounds. He had blue eyes, blonde hair, and a "light" complexion. He wore glasses and false teeth.

In 1898, in the year that Max Weg was born, on February 15th, the USS Maine exploded and sank in Havana harbor. The reason for the explosion has never been found, but it killed 266 men.
