    Mary Ellen Aten February 03, 1962 - May 30, 2017 Funeral services for Mary Ellen Aten will be held 4:00 P.M. Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N 21st Street, Newark. The family will receive friends and acquaintances beginning at 2:00 P.M. Saturday. Mrs. Aten, age 55, passed away at Forest Hills Lake, Coshocton, Ohio on Tuesday, May 30, 2017. She was born February 3, 1962 in Huntington, West Virginia to parents Truman and Doris (Gray) Moore. She married Larry Aten on October 22, 1988. Mary was a musician who played with the Coshocton Community Band for many years. She also was an active Band Parent until her illness made that impossible. Mary is survived by her loving husband of 28 years, Larry Aten; daughters Courtney and Kristie "Kris" Aten of Newark; grandson Zane Starner and Jackson Aten; her mother Doris Moore; siblings Kenneth (Pam) Moore, Steven Moore, Hazel Moore and Christopher (Tina) Moore; aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews. Meredith, escorted by federal marshals, registered at the University of Mississippi - becoming the first African-American student admitted to the segregated college. He had been inspired by President Kennedy's inaugural address to apply for admission.

In 1973, Mary was only 11 years old when in October, Vice President Spiro Agnew resigned - President Nixon nominated Gerald Ford for Vice President. Nixon's tax returns came under investigation. Nixon offered the recently discovered Oval Office tapes be heard by one person and summarized - his offer was rejected by the Special Prosecutor. Nixon ordered the Attorney General, then the assistant Attorney General, to fire the Special Prosecutor. Both refused and were fired. The Solicitor General became the acting Attorney General and fired the Special Prosecutor (the Saturday Night Massacre). Nixon releases some of the tapes, under extreme pressure because of the firings.
