Nellie Tayloe Ross (right) was Director of the Mint from 1933 to 1953. She also was the first (and only) female governor of Wyoming (1925 - 1927) and a staunch supporter of Prohibition.
Marion Glass Banister (left) was the Assistant United States Treasurer, appointed by President Roosevelt. Times Magazine said, at the time of her appointment that "As a glorified bookkeeper, she has no policy-making powers."
Even the caption of this photo made jokes about women being in positions of power (especially in regards to money): "Look out for Uncle Sam's cash" was the cute opening sentence.
