    The Advocate. Melbourne. 18th September 1924. Mrs. Margaret Wharton, wife of the late Thomas Wharton, mother of Mrs. M. Wighton, and aunt of the Rev. M. Galvin, P.P. ( Wonthaggi ), and the Rev. P. Galvin, ( Darlinghurst, Sydney ), and Sister M. Brendan ( Convent of the Good Shepherd, Abbotsford ), died on the 12th inst. at Burnley. The funeral proceeded from SS. Peter and Paul's Church, South Melbourne, for the Melbourne General Cemetery.

The act created both the Kansas Territory and the Nebraska Territory, which would determine for themselves if they would be pro-slavery or free. Both territories allowed slavery but it caused contention within the territories.

In 1868, she was just 14 years old when on October 28th, Thomas Edison - age 21 - applied for his first patent. It was for the electric vote recorder and was designed to make voting quicker and the counting of votes more accurate. Congress didn't like the idea so Edison's voting machine was never used.
