Marcelline (Chatillon Godin) Berard was born on June 17, 1830 to Ambrose Godin Chatillon and Catherine (Legault) Gaudin Chatillon. She married Louis Berard on October 9, 1848, and had a child Louis Berard. Marcelline Berard died at age 72 years old on February 26, 1903.

In 1830, in the year that Marcelline (Chatillon Godin) Berard was born, on March 26th, The Book of Mormon was published in Palmyra, New York by Joseph Smith, Jr. The full title was "The Book of Mormon: An Account Written by the Hand of Mormon upon Plates Taken from the Plates of Nephi". According to Smith, the angel Moroni appeared to him when he was 17 and told him where to find golden tablets that told the story of a people who migrated from Jerusalem to the Americas. He transcribed the tablets, which became the Book of Mormon.
