Manuel Silva 1919 - 2011

Manuel Manny Silva was born on May 22, 1919 to Luiz Da Silva and Julia Da Silva, and had siblings Arlindo Silva, Mary (Da Silva) Grilo, Joseph Da Silva, Julia Perino, and Ida Breit. He married Alice Silva, and they were married until death separated them. He also married Alice Silva, and they were married until Alice's death on March 2, 2008. They had a child Diane Chichester. Manuel Silva died at age 92 years old on December 24, 2011, and was buried at Cemetery of the Holy Rood 111 Old Country Rd, in Westbury, Nassau County, New York United States.

In 1919, in the year that Manuel Silva was born, in January, Nebraska was the 36th state to ratify the 18th Amendment, making it the law of the land. The 18th Amendment established Prohibition - a law against the production, transport, and sale of alcohol. Private consumption and possession were not prohibited. Several months later, the Volstead Act was passed, creating laws to enforce the Amendment. Bootlegging and bathtub gin followed.
