    Mabel (Landis) Ziegler was born on March 22nd, 1901 in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania to Harry Groff Landis (1881 - 1943) and Bertha Anna Freed (1882 - 1958) and she had siblings Norman (1903 - 1968) and Henry (1907 - 1984) and Emma (1912 - 1987). Mabel Landis married Warren Sautter Ziegler (1899 - 1960) on November 28th, 1918 inj Montgomery County, Pennsylvania and they had sons Levern "Vern", Robert, Harry and Mervin. Mabel was survived by five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

After the Armistice was made public on September 8th, Germany attacked and occupied Italy. It took 20 months of fighting for the Allies to reach the northern borders of Italy.
