Andersonville Ga. Prison Camp: Luke Brown was born in Cumberland County, New Jersey on or about 1844. He was my grandfathers older brother. (Elmer Brown; born 1854 died 1940) He enlisted in the 8th Calvarly unit of Philadelpia Pa. Philadelpia was only about 40 miles from where he lived. He was captured by the rebels on July 9th 1864 and later escaped. He loved his horse so much that he tried to rescue it and was recaptured. He wrote two letters home to my great grandmother and then died after becoming sick due to the conditions of Andersonville Ga. Prison Camp. He is buried at grave site #8,2?? in the prison graveyard. He died at the age of 20 years old.
