    Louis Baskind was born to Harry (1891-1968) and Leah Wabik Baskind (1892-1986) and had a sister Helen Baskind (1923-2003). He married Nina Pearl Groom (1922-2015) on July 3rd 1943 in Texas, and they had two children including Larry Alan who was born in 1947 and passed away in 2016. A 50th wedding announcement reads: The former Nina Groom and Louis Baskind celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary July 23 at a family dinner. Their children and their families were hosts. They are the parents of Larry Baskind of El Paso and Steve Basking of Dallas. They have four grandchildren. The Baskinds were married July 3, 1943, in Galveston. He is retired and she is a homemaker.

In 1918, in the year that Louis Baskind was born, following European countries, Daylight Saving Time went into effect in the United States in March. It was an effort to conserve fuel needed to produce electric power. This was a war effort and proved unpopular so in most areas of the United States, Daylight Saving Time ended after World War I. It returned during World War II.

In 1921, at the age of only 3 years old, Louis was alive when on November 11th, the first burial was held at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery. The body of an unknown soldier - selected by Army Sgt. Edward F. Younger who was highly decorated for valor and received the Distinguished Service Cross in "The Great War" - was brought back from France (World War 1) and placed in the newly completed tomb. President Warren G. Harding officiated at the interment ceremonies.
