She had siblings Reginald James Bates, Harold Arthur Bates, Rupert Vivian "Gilly" Bates, and Ivy Elizabeth Bates. She married Oscar Hannig in 1919, and had a child Leslie Robert Hannig. Lottie Hanning died at age 92 years old on August 27, 1989 in Nhill, Hindmarsh Shire County.
