    Lorraine Ritrovato Cleary - 1940-2001 was born in Tivoli, NY to Pearl Dugan and Vincent Ritrovato. In 1949 her father passed in a tragic accident at the Poughkeepsie train yard. As a young girl, she faced racism as an Italian child in a predominantly German/Irish neighborhood. She married Edward Joseph Cleary at age 21. Lorraine had 4 children. 3 girls and 1 boy that she raised on her own due to the unreliability and alcoholism of her husband. 2 of her daughters were killed by drunk drivers in 2 separate accidents, 10 years apart. The sudden deaths of her daughters caused severe grief in her life. She never recovered from the loss. Despite, all of the difficulties and hardships that Lorraine faced, she remained a kind, gentle, and giving person to anyone who was in need of a helping hand. She was a talented poet, experienced gardener, and avid reader. She is remembered with extreme love by her remaining family.
