    Loretta L. Clark Klasing © Enid News and Eagle A memorial service for Loretta L. Klasing, age 68, of New Orleans, LA will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Ladusau-Evans Chapel with Rev. Don Tines officiating. Her request was to be cremated and her remains will be buried at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. She was born March 15, 1937 in Enid to Wayne and Leona Teaque Clark. After surviving Hurricane Katrina she was evacuated to Ferriday, LA where she passed away in the Riverland Medical Center on September 28, 2005. She attended and graduated from Enid Public Schools in 1955. She had many professions throughout her life. In her twenties she modeled semi professionally then moved on to caring for the elderly at nursing homes as a nurse’s aid. She moved to New Orleans in 1985 where she went to work in housekeeping at Royal Sonesta Hotel. She is survived by her two sons, Mark Klasing and Grant Klasing both of Enid; four grandchildren Jamie Colclasure of Enid, Buckley Klasing of Garber, Kayla and Ryan Klasing both of Enid. In 1937, in the year that Loretta L Klasing was born, on May 6th, the German zeppelin the Hindenburg caught fire and blew up. The Hindenburg was a passenger ship traveling to Frankfurt Germany. It tried to dock in New Jersey, one of the stops, and something went wrong - it blew up. Thirty-six people were killed out of the 97 on board - 13 passengers, 22 crewmen, and one ground worker. The reasons for the explosion are still disputed.

In 1945, she was only 8 years old when on June 22nd, the Battle of Okinawa ended. A joint Army and Marine campaign, supported by the Navy, the Battle of Okinawa went on for 82 days. The last Japanese resistance on Okinawa was defeated. 4,907 Navy, 4,675 Army, and 2,938 Marine Corps personnel were killed in the battle on the US side. It is estimated that 110,071 on the Japanese side were killed - the estimate includes Okinawan citizens who were pressed into service and includes children. With the win of Okinawa, the United States gained an important base of operations in the Pacific.
