In 1868, in the year that Lok Moy was born, on August 13th, an estimated 8.5 to 9 earthquake struck southern Peru. It had a category "extreme" effect and caused over 25,000 deaths. The resulting tsunami affected areas as far away as Hawaii and New Zealand.

In 1871, at the age of just 3 years old, Lok was alive when on March 29th, Royal Albert Hall in London was officially opened by Queen Victoria. Construction had begun in 1867 and the hall was named after Queen Victoria's husband, who had died in 1861 - 10 years before.
