Previously - since the 17th century - the term computer meant "one who computes" and referred to human beings who worked with numbers.

In 1909, by the time she was only 12 years old, the NAACP was founded by W. E. B. Du Bois. The organization focused on legal strategies designed to confront the critical civil rights issues of the day - which included lynching and segregation in schools.
