Leo was baptized in 1932. He married Maria Lang in Germany. They had children Rosemarie (Lang) Garrison and Albin Lang. He also married Patricia Lang, and they were married until Leo's death on November 3, 1994. They had children Eric Raymond Lang and Krista Lee Lang.

    Leo Raymong Lang was the youngest of 4 children. His parents were Mary Jean and August Prosper Lang. Mary and August Lang were both immigrants from Strasbourg, Alsace-Lorraine. Alsace-Lorraine was part of Germany at the time of their birth, but had been returned to France by the time they were married. Mary Lang always proudly considered herself French, but like many Alsatians the Lang family is also German. Leo was always very proud of being German. His siblings were Theresa, Albin, and Edward Lang.

    Leo took his GED at age 16 so that he could enlist in the US Army. Despite not attending college, he was fluent in at least 4 languages. He grew up speaking German, English, and French. He learned a 4th language, Urdu, when the Army sent him to a special language training school. He also spoke a good amount of Korean, but may not have been fully fluent in it.

  • Military Service

    yes-he served in the Korean War and spent many years stationed in West Germany. While stationed in Bavaria, he was awarded a medal for single-handedly stopping a runaway train near Munich and saving the lives of all the soldiers on board.

    Leo served in the 101st Airborne, and later as a Staff Sergent in the US Army Reserves. After retiring from the Army Reserves at age 60, he began working for the Ocean County Public Library.
  • Personal Life & Family

    He was a skilled craftsman who built the front porch on his family home and remodeled much of the inside. He was an avid reader, enjoying literature in English and German. He was also an avid fisherman, a person who loved the outdoors- especially being on the ocean. He also loved to golf, which he won a few amateur competitions in, and he enjoyed cooking specialties like Alsatian Pfannkuchen for his kids.

Grandfather of three, Great-grandfather of two. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Joseph's R.C. Church, Toms River. Interment will follow at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown, N.J. Friends may call Tuesday, 2-4 and 7-9 at Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main Street, Toms River, N.J. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to Pittsburgh Transplantation Institute, Falk Clinic, 3601 5th Ave., Pittsburgh, Pa, 15213
