Leo Garnet Oleary of Jamieson Australia was born in 1894 in Jamieson, Mansfield Shire County, VIC to Arthur Oleary and Margaret Frances (Rogerson) Oleary. He had siblings Mary Frances Oleary, Bertram Robert Arthur Oleary, William John Oleary, Francis Oleary, and John Oleary. Leo Oleary married Adelaide Elizabeth Mary Pinnuck in 1920, and died at age 60 years old in 1954 in Windsor.

He was wounded in action in Belgium when he received a gun shot wound to the right knee. Leo worked many jobs including working as a carpenter, a decorator in St, Toorak, Victoria, and a farmer in Pyramid Hill, Echuca, Victoria, Australia. In 1920, he married Adelaide Elizabeth Mary Pinnuck (1894-1974) and they had a son together, Leo Kenneth O'Leary (1921-1996).

In 1894, in the year that Leo Garnet Oleary was born, large reserves of oil were discovered on the Osage Indian reservation in Oklahoma. Previously thought to be "useless" land - not even good for farming - the tribe had bought the land themselves. The discovery of oil made the Osage the "richest group of people in the world" at the time.

In 1918, at the age of 24 years old, Leo was alive when on November 11th, an armistice was signed between the Allies and Germany, ending the fighting on the Western Front in World War I. This meant a complete defeat of Germany although Germany never formally surrendered. It took another six months of negotiations to sign an actual peace treaty between the warring parties.
