General Tom Thumb, aka Tom Thumb was a famous dwarf because of the even more famous P.T. Barnum. Tom's actual name was Charles Sherwood Stratton.

Thanks to a seminar with Maureen Taylor, I've learned that this particular photo of Tom Thumb, taken during his marriage to Lavinia Warren, was very popular since P.T. Barnum sold this particular photo for $1.00 wherever his circus would travel.

Over 10,000 people went to Tom's funeral in June 1883.
