Laura Agnes (Stirling) Shingles of Maffra, Wellington Shire County, VIC Australia was born on December 29, 1869 in Maffra to William Stirling and Mary Amey. She had siblings Emma Stirling, Ethel Mary (Stirling) Russell, Agnes Stirling, Alfred Stirling, and William Stirling. She married John Thomas Shingles in 1892, and had children Ena Myrtle Shingles, Margaretta May Shingles, Evelyn Shingles, Claude Shingles, Alma Vera Shingles, and Charles Leslie Shingles. Laura Shingles died at age 76 years old in 1946 in Maffra.

In 1877, by the time she was only 8 years old, on March 2nd, the U.S. presidential election of 1876 was ended with the selection of Rutherford B. Hayes as the winner. Samuel J.
