  • Obituary

Mr. Chapman suffered from a form of epilepsy which caused blackouts. On January 5, 1951 he blacked out at the wheel of his 1951 Ford traveling over 2,000 feet through an elementary schoolyard striking and killing 6-year old Beverly Vance Sink. In subsequent interviews with police he admitted his doctor had told him not to drive alone but he had done so anyway. He was charged with manslaughter in Beverly's death but the jury found the incident an "act of god". I was a classmate of Beverly.
