Uncover new discoveries and connections today by sharing about people & moments from yesterday.
  • Introduction

Lance Von Allmen, originally known as Gary James Allmen, was born to Henry E Allmen and Eleanor A Crowell. In the 1950 federal census, nine-year-old Gary was living in Fairview, Ohio, with his parents, younger sister Beverly, and brother Terry. Henry was the vice-president of a transfer and moving company at the time. Later in life, Lance became an inventor and owned a window tinting shop in Las Vegas, Nevada. He had aspirations to expand his business into green technology, including solar power and oil containment systems. See Oil Containment System for a link to a YouTube video of Lance demonstrating his ideas. However, his business started to decline, leading him to sell his window tinting shop to business partners in 1981. Tragically, Lance was involved with a married woman who was separated from her husband. In June of 1981, the woman's husband caught Lance and his wife in bed together and shot Lance, leading to his untimely death. "For what it is worth I worked for Lance in 1980-1981 and knew him up until the day he died. In 1980, Lance opened a business in Las Vegas called "The Energy Company". It was based as a window tint shop for cars and homes.

He had grander ideas to expand it into solar retro-fitting homes with solar power. He basically took a dozen various laborers off the street, gave us jobs, and tried to inspire us to buy into his plans and create something greater.

Every Saturday morning he had a solar class to try to develop us into his grand plan. Unfortunately the time was wrong and his plan didn't really work out. We stayed mainly a tint shop and the money was good. I was in high school and worked there on the weekends when I was a senior. Lance did what he could to help me along as I was trying to get into one of the military academies.

In 1981 his business began to fall apart and was eventually bought out by a couple of associates he had brought on. By the summer of 1981 he was pretty much down on his luck. His business was run by someone else and gone were the grand ideas of the previous year. However, the tinting money was still good.

Like all dreamers, Lance had a few character flaws and his {involved} the women. He liked to spend his time in the country bars and the Silver Dollar Saloon on Fremont street. Unfortunately, Lance got involved with a married woman who was separated from her husband. Anyway he caught them in bed and shot Lance dead. It made the news but don't ever think charges were pressed.

I learned a lot from Lance both what to do and what not to. I was grateful to him for giving me a job as a high school student. I still use some of the things he taught us today."
