Kate (Cosgriff) Claxton 1908 - 1994

Kate (Cosgriff) Claxton was born in 1908 to Patrick Joseph Cosgriff and Honora Angela (Bourke) Cosgriff, and had siblings John Thomas Cosgriff, Michael Francis Cosgriff, Eugene Francis Cosgriff, and Mary Leitch. She married Leo Robert Claxton, and died at age 85 years old on May 20, 1994. Kate Claxton was buried at New Cheltenham Cemetery in Cheltenham, Bayside City County, VIC Australia.

In 1908, in the year that Kate (Cosgriff) Claxton was born, a 7.1 earthquake and the resulting tsunami killed 70,000 to 100,000 people in southern Italy and Sicily. The earthquake, lasting 30 to 40 seconds, occurred in the Strait of Messina which was between the region of Calabria (at the "toe" of Italy) and the island of Sicily and destruction from it occurred in a 186 mile radius. It was the most destructive earthquake ever to hit Europe.

Having gone to bed the previous night after being treated for breathing problems, the ex-President died in his sleep from a clot that had traveled to his lungs. He was 60.
