Julia's children, and husbands
Julia came to the United States from New Brunswick Canada with her parents as a young girl. She used to tell me stories of when she was young, the very first Steam Engine was coming through town, her mother called to her to come in, because she was playing out front in the yard. Her mom was worried Abt her. Julia disobeyed she wanted to see the machine, that was so nosey and made the ground vibrate and shake. Growing up during the depression, she said her and her mom would go to the store for meat, but all they had to sell for meat was horsemeat. That was the freshest and only meat to be had. She never learned to drive, nor did she ever wear a pair of pants during her life. She as a mother, was gifted and Blessed with 15 children, can you imagine??? During those days, times were much different than today. Her first husband was a womanizer, & very abusive and an alcoholic. The children she had with her first husband, for a while we're made wards of the state, not because she did something wrong, but because she had filed for divorce and had to apply for welfare. Her then ex-husband to be, had beaten her so much, she needed time to heal.
She had two children preceded her in death, a son who drowned, while cutting across the pond coming home from school with his sister Olive, Aged 7 and it stuck with Olive her whole life. Olive was deathly afraid of water, never even learned to swim. She had a fear of water since that day and for all of her life. Julia had a baby prematurely she names Lavina. She said she was so tiny when she was born, that the baby fit in her hands, the baby was not fully developed, because she tried to give the baby some warm water, and as she placed it in the babies mouth, Julia said that the water just swirled around in the babies mouth. She fit in a tiny shoe box. I don't know how old she was, but newborn Lavina passed soon after. I believe she is buried in Portland cemetery, awaiting her parents.
