    Joseph Leopold Hlanak was born on November 13th, 1905 in Fayette County, Texas to John Hlanak and Agnes Veselka and he had five siblings, John, Mary, Albina, Clara, and Emilie, Ludwig, Louis, Agnes, Annie, and Charles. On his October, 1940 World War II draft card, Joseph described himself as being five feet, six 1/2 inches tall and as weighing 199 3/4 pounds. He had blue eyes, brown hair, and a "ruddy" complexion with a large scar on his right forefinger. Joe L. Hlanak married Emma Ulbrich on June 14th, 1932 in Harris County, Texas and they had a daughter, Allene, and a son, Joseph, plus one more son. Joseph was a volunteer fireman for Station Number 2 in Baytown, Texas. He was survived by two grandsons. See Joseph Hlanak: Obituary.

    JOSEPH L. HLANAK Joseph L. Hlanak, 59, of 1519 Missouri, died at 2:30 a.m. Thursday in a Galveston hospital. A Baytown resident 23 years, he was a shipping clerk for the Baytown Lumber Company and was a volunteer fireman for Station No. 2. Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Chapel and at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Garden of Gethsemane in Houston. The Reverend Denis Kennedy will officiate in funeral rites. A rosary will be recited at 9 p.m. Friday at the Chapel. Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Emma Hlanak of Bytown; a daughter, Mrs Aleene Derryberry of Baytown; a son, Joseph Hlanak of Baytown; a brother, L.K. Hlanak of Baytown; sisters Mrs. C.J. Michaelsky, Mrs. P. P. Navasod and Mrs. Frank Kloesel, all of Baytown.
