Johnathon "Jack" O'Donnell of Stawell, Northern Grampians Shire County, VIC Australia was born on December 15, 1893 in Lismore, Corangamite Shire County to Edmond O'Donnell and Jane Ester (Frind) Odonnell. He had siblings Wilfred John O'Donnell, Mary Jane O'Donnell, Edmond O'Donnell, and George Walter O’Donnell. He married Mabel Rose Robertson in 1920, and had children Byron John O'Donnell, Byron John O'Donnell, Geoffrey Charles Odonnell, and Jack Ian O'Donnell. Johnathon O'Donnell died at age 58 years old on January 21, 1952 in Stawell, Northern Grampians Shire County.

In 1893, in the year that Johnathon "Jack" O'Donnell was born, a songbook, called Song Stories for the Kindergarten, was published by sisters Patty and Mildred Hill. One of the songs included in the book was "Good Morning to All" - later the lyrics were changed and it became "Happy Birthday to You".

In 1905, at the age of merely 12 years old, Johnathon was alive when the first movie theater opened in the United States in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was the first theater to show nothing but movies - silent films. Two men, John P. Harris and his brother-in-law Harry Davis, opened the Nickelodeon on Smithfield Street - charging 5 cents for admission. The first day, 450 people watched movies at the new theater - on the second day, more than 1500 people stood in line to get in.
