John Turner of Melbourne Australia was born in 1828. He was married to Mary Ann (Martlew) Turner in 1868, and had children Ada Mary Turner, Alice Ellen (Turner) Ferguson, Amy Elizabeth Turner, John Turner, Frederick Charles Turner, William Martlew Turner, Ernest John Turner, and Iris May Turner. John Turner died at age 64 years old on November 7, 1893 in Fitzroy North, VIC, and was buried at Melbourne General Cemetery, College Cres, in Parkville, City of Melbourne County.

In 1838, by the time he was merely 10 years old, on February 24th, Representatives William J. Graves (Kentucky) and Jonathan Cilley (Maine) fought a duel with rifles. They faced off at 94 yards. Cilley was hit on Graves' third try - in the femoral artery - and bled to death on the dueling field. The Panic of 1837 and Jackson's presidency had caused an extremely partisan Congress and the duel was a result.
