John Stinson was born in 1813 to Jacob Stinson and Polly (Simpkins) Stinson. He was in a relationship with Nancy (Nichols) Stinson, and had a child Harriet Rhonda (Stinson) Coad. John Stinson died at age 64 years old in 1877.

In 1813, in the year that John Stinson was born, on January 28th, Pride and Prejudice, written by Jane Austen, was published anonymously in London. None of her books carried her name - her first novel, Sense and Sensibility, named the author as "By a Lady". Pride and Prejudice named the author as "By the Author of Sense and Sensibility."

In 1839, by the time he was 26 years old, on January 2nd, the first photo of the Moon was taken by Louis Daguerre, known as the "father of photography". The following June, he applied for and got a patent for his camera - to which France acquired the rights in exchange for a lifetime pension for Louis and his co-inventor's nephew. The camera was available to the public by September. It cost 400 francs (about $50 US then, almost $1270 today) and weighed 120 pounds.
