His father was born in Iowa and his mother was born in Nebraska. John had one brother, George Roy Trudo (1923 - 1991) and one sister, Alberta Jean Trudo (1926 - 1991). John was a veteran of the United States Navy who served in the Korean Conflict. John Trudo married Anita June Parker (1933 - 1999) on April 20th, 1978 in Mesa, Colorado. He then married Shirley Jean Spickelmier on August 10th, 1984 in Winnemucca, Nevada.
