  • Introduction

    The Argus, Melbourne. 20th June 1910. BOAT CAPSIZES. A MAN MISSING. NAGAMBIE, Saturday. - Mr. J. Menzies who carries on business as a watchmaker, left here on Friday evening at 8 o'clock in a flat-bottomed boat, intending to gather a load of wood along the banks of the Goulburn River. On learning he told his wife he would return at 11 o'clock. Mrs. Menzies anxiously waited until 4 o'clock this morning , when she raised the alarm. Mr. McLeod, accompanied by Messrs. S. and W. Gebbie, went in search of Menzies. About midday they found the boat capsized, and Menzies coat, with the right sleeve turned inside out, close to the south side of the lake. Search parties have been out all day, but no tidings of the missing man are reported. The night was rough, and it was surmised that the boat was capsized, and Menzies drowned. 5th July 1910. DEAD BODY RECOVERED. After a search extending over 15 days, the body of the late Mr. J. Menzies, who met his death throug a boating accident In circumstances which already have been reported...
