John Ira “Jack” Riddle 1881 - 1947

John Ira Riddle was born on July 5, 1881 in Henry County, Virginia United States to John William Riddle and Sally Jane "Gilley" (Woodall) Riddle, and had siblings Rainie Lee (Riddle) Dickinson, Samuel George Thomas “Buck” Riddle, Lillian Missouri "Lillie Mae" (Riddle) Hankins, and Joseph Henry “Joe” Riddle. He married Lenora Richardson “Nora” (Eanes) Riddle on December 20, 1904 in Henry County, and they were married until John's death on June 5, 1947 in Rockingham County, North Carolina. John Riddle had children Alva Viola (Riddle) Haley, Lottie Sue (Riddle) Minter, Willie James Riddle, John Emmett Riddle, Virginia Washington (Riddle) Garrett, and Betty Everlena (Riddle) Cannaday.

In 1881, in the year that John Ira “Jack” Riddle was born, on March 4th, James A. Garfield became the 20th President of the United States. On July 2nd, he was shot by Charles Guiteau, a lawyer, in Washington, D.C. The wound became infected and Garfield died on September 19. Vice President Chester A. Arthur immediately became the 21st President.
