John George Uhl 1875 - 1954

John George Uhl of Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan United States was born on February 17, 1875 in Sebewaing, Huron County to Franz Xaver Uhl and Katharine Marie (Wolf) Uhl. He had siblings Anna Maria (Uhl) Mast, Margaretha Katharine (Uhl) Irion, Katharine Rosina (Uhl) Fliegel, Rosina Louisa (Uhl) Kassermann, Louise Elisabeth (Uhl) Zimmer, and Dorothea Emilie (Uhl) Liken. He was in a relationship with Louise Marie (Fliegel) Uhl, and had children Walter Elvin Uhl, Ella M. (Uhl) Wuebben, Olga L. (Uhl) Loos, Elmer Carl Uhl, Clarence Henry Uhl, Carl William Uhl, Albert John Uhl, and Mabel Lorena (Uhl) Bell. John Uhl died at age 79 years old on October 11, 1954 in Detroit, Wayne County, and was buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Detroit.

In 1888, at the age of only 13 years old, John was alive when on January 12th, the 'Schoolhouse Blizzard' blanketed Dakota Territory. Montana, Minnesota, Nebraska, Kansas, and Texas were hit, leaving 235 dead. Many of those who perished were children on their way home from school. The day was relatively warm when it began and the blizzard hit unexpectedly, catching most by surprise.
