A veteran of the United States Army, John served during World War II. John Konrath married Sharon Schisler on September 21st, 1987 in Wisconsin. He had a son, Ron, and one daughter, Sandra. He had gray eyes, blonde hair, and a "sallow" complexion. When he died, John was survived by his wife, Sharon, who he married in 1987 and one son, Ron, as well as one daughter, Sandra. John was a member of Good Hope-Sciota Lions Club, the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He also was a member of the Illinois Sheriffs Association. A professional drummer in the Chicago, Illinois, area, John played in the Sounds of Music Band at nursing homes in the Macomb, Illinois area.

    Born to Gus and Theresa Novesel Konrath, John married Sharon Schisler on Sept. 21, 1987, in Rhinelander, Wis. She survives. Also surviving are one son, Ron; one daughter, Sandra Konrath; one brother, Herman; and two sisters, Lillian Gamauf and Rose Naujokas. Two sisters and one brother preceded him in death. He was a supervisor at Royal Haeger Lamp in Macomb, retiring in 1989. A World War II Army veteran, he was a member of Good Hope-Sciota Lions Club, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He also was a member of the Illinois Sheriffs Association. He was a professional drummer in the Chicago area and played in the Sounds of Music Band in Macomb at area nursing homes. - The Peoria Journal Star (Peoria, Illinois) July 8, 1993.

In 1920, in the year that John G Konrath was born, on January 1, over 6000 people were arrested and put in prison because they were suspected of being communists. . Many had to be released in a few weeks and only 3 guns were found in their homes. The U.S. Department of Justice "red hunt" netted thousands of "radicals" and suspected "communists" and aliens were deported. But the "hunt" ended after Attorney General Palmer forecast a massive radical uprising on May Day and the day passed without incident.

In 1934, he was merely 14 years old when on July 22nd, gangster John Dillinger was killed in Chicago. His gang had robbed banks and police stations, among other charges, and he was being hunted by J. Edgar Hoover, head of the FBI - although many in the public saw him as a "Robin Hood". A madam from a brothel in which he was hiding became an informer for the FBI and, after a shootout with FBI agents, Dillinger was shot and died.
