John Frederick Sorensen of Glenhuntly, VIC Australia was born in 1887 in Brighton to Hans Peter Sorensen and Annie Wmina (Millard) Sorensen. He had siblings William Stanley Sorensen, Geoffrey Norman Sorensen, Dulcie Alice Muriel Sorensen, Gladys Emma Sorensen, Ivy May Irvine, and William Stanley Sorensen. John Sorensen died at age 73 years old in October 1961 in Glenhuntly, Victoria County.

In 1887, in the year that John Frederick Sorensen was born, on May 9th, Buffalo Bill's Wild West show opened in London. Founded in 1883, the show was attended - twice - by Queen Victoria and adored by audiences who thrilled to his fanciful acts portraying life in the "Wild West."

In 1902, he was only 15 years old when the first Rose Bowl game was played in Pasadena, California. Called the "Tournament East–West football game" at the time, the Michigan Wolverines (East) played the Stanford Indians (West) - the Wolverines won 49 - 0. (The Stanford captain requested an end to the game with 8 minutes remaining.) The Tournament of Roses Parade began in 1890 and the football game began as a way to boost tourism in the area.
