He had siblings Olive Augusta Wilkinson, Norman Stanley Wilkinson, and Evelyn Maude Wilkinson. He married Jean Leonaora Watt in 1929, and had a child Allan Brian Wilkinson. John Wilkinson died at age 70 years old on October 1, 1978 in Eltham, Shire of Nillumbik County.
