Paternal Grandfather
Joao Orfao was born and raised in Madiera Island, Portugal. He served in the 25th Special Infantry Bn during World War I. He was a sailor and longshoreman until after WWII. He married Eva Canha and had 3 children Jose, Joao and Marie. He moved his family to Boston in the Mid 1940s. Papa had 9 grandchildren.
He was a devout catholic walking to church daily. He never got a driver's license and depended on public transportation or walking. He loved gardening and fishing with a handling.
I'm not sure of all the jobs he had but he lost two fingers in a paper cutting machine in a Boston Bindary. He also worked at the Parker House Hotel in Boston atleast into his late 80s and perhaps early 90s.
He died at 95. Papa was a very cheerful man and an excellent provider for his family.
