Of Dayton, ME died Dec. 15, 2004 after a long illness. He is survived by his wife Sheila; daughters, Ann of Norwood, MA; Brigid and son-in-law Ryan Chessie and grandson Luke Chessie all of W. Hartford, CT. Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9pm on Friday Dec. 17 at Cote Funeral Home in SACO, ME. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am Saturday Dec. 18 at St. Mary's Church, Biddeford, ME. Jeremiah R. Guiney Jr., 60
DAYTON - Jeremiah R. Guiney Jr., 60, of Goodwins Mills Road, passed away Wednesday morning on Dec. 15, 2004 at Goodhall Hospital in Sanford after a long illness.
He was born on Nov. 8, 1944, in Portland, a son of Jeremiah Sr. and Helena Callan Guiney.
Jeremiah graduated from Cheverus High School in 1963. He also attended Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, for two years. Jeremiah received his Bachelors of Education, Class of 1967 and his Masters of Education, Class of 1970, from the University of Southern Maine.
Mr. Guiney spent his 23-year career with the Scarborough School system having served as a teacher and principal at Bessey School.
Jeremiah was a member of the Maine Teacher's Association, the National Education Association, the Maine Principal's Association and served as the President of the Scarborough Teacher's Association.
He was a member of the Dayton Police Commission and the Dayton Historical Society.
His hobbies included history, reading, genealogy and gardening.
Most of all he loved to spend time with his family and friends.
Mr. Guiney was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church and a member of the parish council.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 38 years, Sheila Sanborn Guiney of Dayton; two daughters, Ann Guiney of Norwood, Mass., and Brigid Chessie and her husband Ryan of West Hartford, Conn.; a grandson, Luke Ryan Chessie; a brother, Phillip Guiney of Groton, Conn.; three sisters, Margaret Morrison of Saco, Nancy Grant of Ormand Beach, Fla., and Catherine Warner of Windsor, Ontario, Canada; and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be 2-4 & 7-9 p.m., Friday, from Cote Funeral Home, corner of Beach and James St., Saco. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, from St. Mary's Church in Biddeford. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Biddeford. Arrangements are by Cote Funeral Home, Saco.
