Jeremiah Ramsey Stowe 1918 - 2009

Jeremiah Ramsey Stowe of Madison Heights, Amherst County, VA was born on August 27, 1918 in Dry Fork, Pittsylvania County to William Thomas Stowe and Bertha Mae (Wallace) Stowe. He had siblings William Herman Stowe Sr., Julia Elizabeth Stowe Wilkes, James Cornelius Stowe, Ruby Wallace (Stowe) Guill, Joel Octavis Stowe, Urannia Beatrice (Stowe) Pendleton, Caleb Nathaniel Stowe, and Ollie Mae (Stowe) Coleman Brooks. He married Nanny Virginia (Guill) Stowe on April 17, 1937 in Rockingham, Richmond County, North Carolina, and they were married until Nanny's death on March 25, 2007 in Lynchburg. He had children Ronald Eugene Stowe Sr., Patricia Ann (Stowe) Panzarino Gibson, and Jerry Lee Stowe. Jeremiah Stowe died at age 90 years old on January 19, 2009 in Lynchburg, and was buried on January 22, 2009 at Fort Hill Memorial Park 5196 Fort Ave, in Lynchburg.

    Jeremiah "Jerry" Ramsey Stowe Jeremiah "Jerry" Ramsey Stowe, 90, of Madison Heights, passed away Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Virginia Nannie Guill Stowe. Born Aug. 27, 1918, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Rev. William Thomas Stowe and Bertha Elizabeth Wallace Stowe. He worked in the lumber industry for more than 70 years and was the owner and operator of J.R. Stowe Lumber. He was also preceded in death by a son, Ronald Eugene Stowe Sr.; two brothers, Neil Stowe and William Herman Stowe; and a sister, Julia Wilkes. Survivors include a son, Jerry Lee Stowe of Naola, Amherst County, V.A.; a daughter, Patricia A. Stowe of Madison Heights, V.A.; two brothers, Caleb Stowe and wife, Lynn, of Charlottesville, V.A., and Joel Stowe and wife, Lucita, of Winchester, V.A.; three sisters, Ruby Guill of Lynchburg, V.A., Ollie May Brooks and husband, Everett, of Salem, V.A., and Beatrice Pennelton of Lynchburg, V.A.; six grandchildren, Ronald E. Stowe Jr., Sarah Elizabeth Thacker and husband, Scott, Vickie Craig and husband, Randy, William J. Stowe, Jeremy Wayne Stowe, and Michael Panzarino and wife, Sharon; four great-grandchildren, Garret Ranson, Zachary Ranson, Cole Panzarino and Andi Frances Panzarino; and other relatives and friends. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009, at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Rev. Earl Clarkson. Interment will take place in Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today, Jan. 21, 2009, at the funeral home, and other times at the residence. Whitten Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Monelison Chapel, is assisting the family.

The U.S. Army accused Roy Cohn (chief counsel to Senator McCarthy and later trusted mentor of Donald Trump) of blackmail. McCarthy and Cohn accused the U.S. Army of harboring communists. The Army allegations were found to be true. The U.S. Senate later censured McCarthy.
