Jane Northcott died at age 84 years old on March 7, 1907 in Creswick, VIC Australia, and was buried circa March 7, 1907 at Creswick Cemetery in Creswick, Hepburn Shire County.

    Richard and Jane had five sons and three daughters and two children who died as infants. She and Richard migrated from England to Victoria, Australia, on the "Conflict", arriving Port Melbourne in June 1868. In 1822, in the year that Jane (Palmer) Northcott was born, on May 26th, 116 people died in the Grue Church fire - the biggest fire disaster in Norway's history. On Pentecost, the church was packed and a fire broke out on the outer wall of the southern transept. Within 15 minutes, the whole church was on fire and it burned to the ground. Almost half of the dead were under 16 and the cause of the fire is still unknown.

In 1834, at the age of merely 12 years old, Jane was alive when on July 15th, the Spanish Inquisition - which began in the 15th century - was abolished by the royal decree of Isabella II. The last known person to be hung by the Inquisition was Cayetano Ripoll - in 1826 - who was a school teacher. He was accused of teaching "deist principles" - which posits that God does not interfere directly with the world.
