In 1839, at the age of 17 years old, Jane was alive when in The Boston Morning Post, on March 23rd, the first recorded use of the word "OK" appeared. A columnist in the paper said this: "The "Chairman of the Committee on Charity Lecture Bells, is one of the deputation, and perhaps if he should return to Boston, via Providence, he of the Journal, and his train-band, would have his 'contribution box,' et ceteras, o.k.—all correct—and cause the corks to fly, like sparks, upward." While this is the first known time that OK appeared in print, where the word came from is still disputed.
