James Ross 1864 - 1898

James Ross of Coongulmerang Australia was born in 1864 in Little River, VIC to Christina Mcgregor Ross and John Dalrymple Ross. He had siblings Isabella (Ross) Day, Gilbert John Ross, Jessie Elizabeth (Ross) Hill, Charles Alexander Ross, Charlotte Ross, Christina Isabel (Ross) Day, and Thomas Ross. He married Elizabeth Jane (Blake) Ross in 1894 in Victoria, and had children William Paul Ross, Jessie Ross Twitchett, Thomas Ross, and James Ross. James Ross died at age 33 years old on January 25, 1898 in Lindenow, East Gippsland Shire County, VIC.

In 1864, in the year that James Ross was born, on June 15th, Arlington National Cemetery was created in Arlington Virginia. 200 acres from the grounds of Robert E. Lee's home were set aside to be a military cemetery. The home and grounds had been in Lee's wife's family - she was a great-granddaughter of Martha Washington.
