James Melville Greig 1862 - 1942

James Melville Greig of Melbourne Australia was born in 1862 to James Saunders Greig and Elizabeth Scott Greig. He had siblings Christabel Mary Greig, Bessie Gertrude Greig, Alf Woolley Greig, James Scott Greig, and Alfred Woolley Greig. He married Mary Ann (Page) Greig, and they were married until death separated them. He had children Constance Mary (Greig) Ludbrooke and Edith Lillian (Greig) Antrobus. James Greig died at age 80 years old in 1942 in Melbourne.

In 1862, in the year that James Melville Greig was born, British citizen Anna Leonowens, a widow, accepted a job in Siam (now Thailand) to teach the children and wives of the King of Siam - he had 39 wives and concubines and 82 children. Taking her son with her and sending her daughter to England for schooling, she taught in Siam for 6 years - until the King died.
