James Lewis Klingerman Jr. was born on January 17, 1936 in Hazleton, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania United States to James Lewis Klingerman Sr. and Elizabeth Irene Klingerman, and has siblings Merlin Robert Klingerman, Betty Jane Drobeck, Donald James Klingerman, Thomas Robert Klingerman, Lois Irene Michael, Carole Mary O'Donnell, Beverly Ann Meneeley, Richard Nelson Klingerman, and Wayne Allen Klingerman. He married Phyllis Mae Klingerman in 1954 in Hazleton, Luzerne County, and they were married until Phyllis' death on September 22, 2011 in Melbourne, Brevard County, Florida. James Klingerman has children Jean Ellen Chatterton, Joan Mae Madden, Judy Lee Reed, and Susan Marie White.

In 1936, in the year that James Lewis Klingerman Jr. was born, on November 2nd, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) debuted the world's first regular high-definition television service. The channel had a short schedule - Monday through Saturday, 3:00p to 4:00p and 9:00p to 10:00p. The first broadcast was "Opening of the BBC Television Service".
