RECENTLY, I PURCHASED "THE GOLDEN AGE OF RAILROADING IN AMERICA;S HEARTLAND", WRITTEN BY JAMES. IT'S A WONDERFUL BOOK, OFFERING BITS OF INFORMATION WHICH WERE QUITE NEW TO ME.

I ESPECIALLY APPRECIATED, ON PAGE 144, MENTION OF MUSIC COMPOSED BY THE BRITISH COMPOSER, HENRY PURCELL, WHO COMPOSED MUCH CEREMONIAL MUSIC FOR BRITISH NOBILITY. THE REFERENCE TO PURCELL'S MUSIC IN A BOOK DEDICATED TO RAILROADS WAS A DELIGHTFUL SURPRISE FOR THIS READER WHO IS A CHURCH ORGANIST AS WELL AS SOMEWHAT OF A TRAIN AND RAILROAD ADDICT.

I GREATLY REGRET THAT I CAME UPON THIS BOOK FAR TOO LATE TO SHARE MY THANKS WITH JAMES. THE PUBLISHER OF THE BOOK, PAUL KUEHNER, IS ALSO NO LONGER WITH US. HE WAS A FINE GENTLEMAN WHO VALUED MANY OF THE FINER PARTS OF CULTURE. IT'S NO SURPRISE TO ME THAT PAUL WOULD HAVE HAD SOME CONNECTION WITH AN AUTHOR SUCH AS JAMES. BOTH JAMES AND PAUL MADE VALUABLE CONTRIBUTIONS TO CULTURE.

THANK YOU FOR PROVIDING A WAY FOR ME TO SHARE MY THANKS AND THOUGHTS ABOUT A WONDERFUL BIT OF LITERATURE.

DAVID DIEIHL
ALLENTOWN, PENNSYLANIA.

ONE FINAL COMMENT. OVER THE YEARS, MY BRIDE AND I HAVE, SEVERAL TIMES, ENJOYED TOURING IN VERMONT, ESPECIALLY RUTLAND AND MANCHESTER.
