James Cornelius Howard of Springdall Australia was born in 1868 in Springdall to Elizabeth Darcy Howard and Patrick Howard. He had siblings John Howard, Patrick Howard, Michael Howard, Sarah Margaret Howard, John Francis Howard, William Howard, Daniel Mattious Howard, and Margaret Mary Hickey. James Howard died at age 45 years old in 1913 in Geelong.

In 1868, in the year that James Howard was born, on February 24th, three days after his attempt to dismiss United States Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton - who was opposed to Johnson's leniency towards the former Confederacy - the US House of Representatives voted (126 to 47) to impeach Andrew Johnson. Johnson was later acquitted in the Senate by one vote short of the required 2/3rds.Senators crossed party lines to keep Johnson as President.

In 1884, by the time he was 16 years old, on August 5th, the cornerstone for the base of the Statue of Liberty - a gift from the people of France - was laid. 120,000 people - most donations were $1 - donated to the completion of the base.
