James was in the Union Army, 58th Indiana Infantry. He enlisted in the Army at Princeton, Indiana on October 9, 1861. He mustered in as a Private in November 11,1861. Later he was wounded at Chicamauga, having his left index finger shot off on September 10, 1863. On January 25, 1864 he re-enlisted and mustered out in 1865.

My Great-Great-Great Grandfather

Private James B. McCreary 58th Indiana Infantry Union Army Company A. He was born Oct. 15, 1833 in Westboro, Ohio and died April 13, 1886 in Winfield, Kansas. He married Pheobe Eva Jane Wasson on June 26, 1858 in Illionis. They had 12 children together.
He was injured in the War.He had his left index finger shot off.
